Losing coolant and cannot see why

Featured Replies

About 2 months ago I noticed my coolant resevoire was ver low. I managed to find the problem which was a hairpin crack under the resevoire so I replaced it. problem solved.

I've just looked under the bonnet for something unrelated and the resevoire is completely empty. The thing is I cannot find any leaks. I've filled it back up and it's holding fine. I've left the engine running for 20 mins, it looks good but if it's a slow leak then I guess it may not show yet.

The engine has been running fine, absolutely no white smoke from the exhaust and it runs smoothly. I've gone under with a torch and cannot find a leak so I have no idea where all the coolant went.

My only thought is that last week I had it parked on a very steep bank so it was leaning down on the drivers side. This surely wouldn't cause it to lose coolant though? Right?

Is there somewhere else I should be checking? Any known issues such as cracks in the reservoire?

thanks!

Possibly just an air lock from when you changed the reservoir which may now have cleared itself ??

I would keep checking it for the next few days just to make sure 👍

Yea. I think I just need to monitor it over the next few days as you say. no point in me guessing until I at least see if it is still losing coolant 🙂

thanks
