Urgent tow bar help needed !!

I'm off in the morning and need to tow a motorbike trailer with my ST Estate. I know this sounds strange but I cant get the ***** Ford detachable towbar to lock. I can get it up into the socket but the handwheel is supposed to rotate back into the green band and its not..while the tow ball feels secure, its not locked as per the instructions in the car..HELP😬

    The tow bar never been used since new, I had to hit into place with a mallet to get the think to lock...wish me luck, the key came out ok..

    Sounds about right, the ford oe one is not the best made in terms of getting it to lock, but once it is locked in it's as good as any other one

    The socket tends to get a bit rusty with lack of use. When you take the neck out it will probably be covered with light rust that you can wipe off with a cloth. Don't be tempted to lubricate the socket with anything. Inserting and removing the neck a few times usually cleans up the socket.
