Focus ST mk2.5 rear caliper upgrade

Featured Replies

After a long time wanting to do this I’ve finally got cracking with fitting red painted calipers for my rear brakes plus new discs, pads and Hel brake lines.

As is always the case the job took longer than planned for the first side though it did help that the brake union to hard pipe freed off ok and I didn’t have to have a serious fight getting the u-clip out. Didn’t help that it rained as I was getting ready to bleed the system and had fluid coming out of the bleed nipple threads as I finally tried out my one-person bleeding kit 🙄

Some finishing off yet for rhs then I get to do the other side tomorrow after cleaning up the dust shield and giving it a lick of paint first

Doesn't it always when you're trying to do a job outside! (Waiting for it to stop now so I can do a job on our caravan.)

New brakes look great, though!

Finished the job off today, no rain this time thankfully though it did spit briefly.

Took all day with taking time to try and rust proof the old splash shield and doing some in the wheel arches too. The splash shield got a lick of paint but isn’t in the best of health.

Bled the brakes with a one-way bleeder but they were still spongy when took the car for a short drive. Hoping it’s better now after I was able to get them bled old-school way without having to jack the car up again with wheels off etc

Brakes look good and love the wheels, however looks to me like the splash shields are fitted the wrong way round.

Yes they look backwards to me. I'd guess that the left and right shields are on the wrong side

That would be my luck to add to recent disasters but they’re definitely fitted correctly. The splash shields are dished and the mounting face is offset from the shield so there’s no way you can fit them the wrong way round plus they’re not handed side to side.

All the parts diagrams show 2 of same part (2x 2C028A) and the engineering part number on spare shield I’ve got actually matches that on the original one that’s still on the left side of the car 👍

I thought they would be the same as the Focus RS, maybe different on the ST.253.thumb.JPG.5ae18baef3e901bdb5cd8786ba24a6e4.JPG

Understandable seeing the difference with the RS shields, had a feeling the RS set up at the back was taken from the Kuga for whatever reasons and parts diagrams do show it has LH and RH shields as opposed to a common part for the ST
