Does my s-max have a wet or dry belt

Featured Replies

Hi

Im.looking to buy a s-max, but don't know if it has a wet or dry belt. It doesn't say economy blue or anything on the sales post. Can anyone help please.

Its a 2.0 TDCi Titanium Euro 6 (s/s) 5dr 148BHP

2018 (67 plate)

thanks

Hi,

The information I have access to suggests EcoBlue wasn't introduced on the S-Max until June 2018.  So a 67 plate must be the old TDCI engine with a conventional dry belt.

I thought wet belt was only on Petrol engines? That engine is a PAG engine anyway, just dressed differently to how the French fit it in the C4 and whatever the Peugeot equivalent is!

Wet belts, just no please! Such a bad idea, as an engineer I cannot fathoms how they settled on that other than something very very cynical!

Well, you thought wrong.

2.0 EcoBlue diesel is fully Ford designed and fitted with 2x wetbelts.  They have been horribly unreliable in the Transit vans and Rangers so far.  I would take the PSA HDI over a Ford EcoBlue any day!

Thank you for that Tom 🤣

I'll take my chances with my 2 EcoBlue engine's rather than anything that has a connection with the French 🫣

I didn't know you had 2 of them.  Your profile only shows one! 🤭

(For anyone that doesn't know, my car experience started with Peugeots.  A couple of unreliable small TU petrol's at first, then a reliable but thirsty large XU petrol, followed by many DW10 HDi's over the years!  Reliable, economical, and could be remapped cheaply with an old laptop.  Also had a few more XU petrols for weekend cars.  Would not go TU again lol, cheap engines are a false economy in my experience!  When I considered Mk2 Focus, the only diesel engine choice I decided was acceptable was the Peugeot based version.  Not the agricultural 1.8 TDCI with a wetbelt!  Ford have been ruining diesel engines for years.  )

My first diesel was a Citroen ZX Turbo D with the XUD 9. 100k absolutely fault free miles in 3 years. Loved that car - though by today's standards 90bhp and 148 lbs/ft (iirc) seem laughable, it was pretty light. I'd hate to think what the emissions were like, though!

....and there was me always thinking you were an ex-VW salesman 😂

I have had the odd VW as well.

Funnily enough, my first diesel was a Mk4 Golf PD130, followed by a near identical one with more doors and better spec.  Never intended to go back to Peugeot, but the engine blew up on the second Golf so I needed something cheap again for short term.  Ended up owning around 17x 306's in 10 years!   Compared to that, 6x Focus's doesn't seem like many.  And only 4x Golfs!  (Not including fake Golfs with Seat & Audi badges  )
