Is it the wet belt?

Featured Replies

Looking for help....

2019 Transit Custom with wet belt.

Van cut out as if it had stalled (just after starting it). It wouldn't restart. Tried easy start and it ran for a bit then cut out. Was rough as a badgers. Now only turns over twice and cuts out. NO Faults show up when I run Fosrscan on it.

Belt is probably due replacement as I have no record of when it was last done. If the belt had slipped, would it still run on easy start? Not sure if it's just a fueling issue so don't want to go down wet belt route if there's actually something else wrong.

Have tried pipes to injectors and fuel is getting there (don't know what pressure at).

Any help or things to check would be great.

Thanks 👍🏻

I wouldn't keep trying to turn it over if you suspect the wet belt has gone, it's probably lost teeth, that's what they normally do.

I'd get it investigated before you go any further

Thought if it had lost even one tooth and the belt had slipped it wouldn't even start on easy start. The fact it ran for a bit then cut out is why I'm questioning if it is the wet belt. I thought it would have shown a fault code if the belt had slipped.

If it is a 2019 transit (your profile says 2009) it is recommended by Ford that the wet timing belt is replaced at 6 years of age. So even if you think it might not be the belt, it is still due.

Sorry, haven't changed my profile. Last van was a 2009, current van is 2019.
