Complete power loss in 2019 Titanium

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had my 2019 Focus Titanium since summer 2023. It's is by far and away my favourite car I've ever driven, and my third Ford car since I started driving. I generally stick to Fords as they have never let me down in the past but that's all changed now 😞

Almost two weeks, completely out of the blue, the car had a complete power loss while I was driving. I lost everything - engine power, brakes - even my electric windows stuck and wouldn't close. I ended up having to get the car towed and the battery pack we put on it did nothing. When it cut out, the dash and screen in the car flashed up with "ESG malfunction", then something about a network connection failure. I got it taken to my local Ford garage and they said it was the body control module. They replaced it for €840.00 and said that seemed to be the issue. I got the car back a week ago and since then all was running as normal until tonight.

The exact same thing happened again, except this time, while I lost everything on the dash, indications, window functions and all other control fuctions - the engine kept running and I managed to get the car home. But now it won't start once again. I have no idea why this has happened to the car. It has never given me any issues since I purchased it, up until a few weeks ago. I'm terrified to drive it now, even if they get it going again. But I still owe 3 years finance on it.

Can anyone offer some advise or possible diagnosis? For what it's worth, I didn't buy the car from a Ford garage. I bought it from a Kia dealer who also sells other makes of used cars. He has been a go-to for cars for my family for years.

Yes the 5.6 litre diesel pixie dust engine is very reliable in these situations 🤣

Perhaps you might tell us what engine you actually have ?

Does the engine crank, but just not start, OR does the engine not even crank ?

No, no crank at all. When I push the start/stop button, there is no response. The green light on the button lights up when I press down on the clutch but that's the only sign of life.

You are going to need FORScan to carry out diagnostics.

What is the voltage of the battery terminals now ?

I suspect that you may have a faulty alternator with an intermittent short-circuit, but before spending money and changing parts use FORScan and read the DTC's.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

OR

For diagnostic use only:

Thank you, I'll give it a go.

I'll wager that they didn't put an £800 BCM on but instead just charged your old and expired battery, which has now died again.

That would be being dishonest and not something a garage would ever do 🤣😂😂🤣
