What happens if your Focus fails its emission test?

Featured Replies

I remember my last MOT when initially it failed its emission test during its MOT, however, the mechanic ran the test again and it passed.

I can't remember what the mechanic said, maybe he didn't run the first test correctly or maybe the car's emissions are borderline.

I'm trying to tart up my Focus e.g. replace a wing panel, spray the underbody with protection etc, but come December, I'm now wondering what happens if the Focus does actually fail its emission test?

I'm only assuming, that it will need a new catalytic converter and judging by the theft of these, it will be expensive.

Will all the money and effort I put into it will be a waste?

Does anyone know roughly how much it will cost to fix? My Focus is a MK1.5.

Thanks very much.

We just give it a good run just before and it always goes thought Same year as yours 🙂

rag it

Yep, providing it is serviced correctly, not running on cheap fuel and you give it an Italian tune (rev above 4,500 RPM) up before it goes in it will always pass

Aftermarket cats are worthless.  It's only the original ones that are worth stealing for the precious metal inside.

Aftermarket cat for this car should cost around £75 brand new.

Thanks very much, that's a relief  Not too bad.
