oil leak Escort

Featured Replies

Hi, Does anyone know whether there are any common places for an oil leak? I presume it's oil anyway - it just leaves some on the drive now and then. I suppose it could be from the gearbox also? And is there a good way to find leaks?

Without sounding abrupt, you've got to get underneath and look.

If there's a lot of dirty build up then clean it all off with solvent and then keep an eye above the area where the residue was. You should be able to see where it's seeping once it's clean.

Common leak points are drive shafts to gearbox, oil filter and rocker cover and, sometimes, the joint of the gearbox to the engine (bellhousing) if the crank seal has gone.
