Electrics issue?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a strange set of issues with my mk3 2014 focus. The car has had a flat battery recently (doesn’t get a lot of miles) but the battery is less than 6 months old and the car starts and drives fine. However I have a couple of strange issues. 1. The windows (mainly front driver side but also front passenger side once) have opened themselves. This has only happened when car is locked. The auto close is not working properly either and comes down on its own when it hits the top. 2. The electric mirrors are not retracting (checked and motors all fine on both) and also the electric movement not working. If anyone has any ideas of where I should be looking first (fuses or somewhere else)please let me know. I’m stumped so any advice very welcome. thanks.

You mention that the car has had a flat battery, but that the car starts and drives fine?

So, what happened in between?

Did you just jump-start the car and nothing else?

Or fully charge the battery (properly)?

How long was the battery "flat" for, before getting the car started?

What type of battery did you fit?

Does your car have Start/Stop?

The cars brain is confused.

  1. Disconnect the negative cable from the car battery for 20 minutes.
  2. Reconnect the battery and WAIT, do nothing, touch nothing.
  3. After 5 minutes turn on the ignition.
  4. The front electric windows will need the auto up / auto down reset

See handbook page 66 for instructions.

Thanks for replying. The car wasn’t used for a few weeks and I had to jump start it. This is after I replaced the battery a few months earlier. I fitted a standard battery I bought from Halfords that was the right one for the make and model. Lastly, I dont have start/stop. Thank you!

Thank you. I will try that and see if it helps.
