wing removal problem

Featured Replies

Hi all, just after any advice from anyone really. I have a Fiesta 2012 1.2 Edge model and last week a Land Rover kindly flew out of a junction and hit my offside wing. The insurance people offered to write it off (well of course they did), but instead, I thought I will try to get a new wing from Ebay for this model as I love the car and not long had the timing belt done new battery etc etc. It doesn't drive any differently and appears to be just panel damage. The replacement wing looks really good, but I can't seem to get the original wing off at the join between the wing and bumper. Youtube videos suggest about 5 bolts to remove, ( plus the dreaded bolt near the quarter window), but upon removing the wheel and liner, the joint from wing to bumper looks like nothing from any Fiesta from youtube and i appreciate there are some variations between models.. I have included some pics, sorry if they aren't  clear. The way the original wing has been put on at the join just doesn't make any sense, I can't actually get at the bolts and the metal work seems to be almost 'folded over' Could this perhaps be a a previous  workshop repair job? Any suggestions?  One last thing, at a glance, would this car pass the MOT on body work if I left the original wing on?  Cheers.

For MOT, the bodywork test is whether a sharp edge could cause injury to a pedestrian.  From that image, the bent part doesn't look sharp enough to pose a risk to me, so should pass MOT.

I think the folded metal is part of the crash damage.  The brackets are fairly thin and weak as they are not meant to take any force from the side.  I'd try bending it back straight using mole grips ideally.  (Could try pliers but take care not to slip with those).

Thanks very much, (its good to know that I may be in with a chance with passing the MOT).  I think if I can't get at the bolt heads to undo them- (see arrows), i will have a look into dent pulling, I don't trust my luck not to snap the bracket!!

Have a great weekend

It's had a bump (earlier in it's life) and has been bodged.

Either put it back how it is or replicate the LHS

Thanks for your input. TBH I'm an amateur with car body work if it's not straight forward, but suspected that something wasn't quite right.
