another post about mk2 focus speakers

Featured Replies

I've only got the passenger side front speaker working now, done the test by pressing buttons 3 and 6 together on my cd6000 player and i have the tweeters working at the front but only the passenger side front speaker working, I have checked the balance etc, not sure if its the speakers or the cd player, id appreciate any advice before i spend money as its a 2006 plate, thanks

The speaker/tweeter are connected in parallel and share the exact same supply signal. The tweeter has an integrated capacitor to filter out the low tones.

This means that If the tweeter is working the radio is supplying a signal to that particular door.

It is highly likely that the speaker is broken. This is quite common on the standard paper speakers of the Focus MK2/MK2.5. You can either install a set of polymer speakers that came with the Premium Sony audio system or install a set of aftermarket speakers.

The cheapest fix is to look for a Ghia or Titanium spec Mk2 at a breakers.

These models had the better quality speakers fitted. These have dark blue plastic cones. The standard ones that are prone to fail have black paper cones.

Be aware that the speakers are attached to the window regulator sheet steel by pop rivets. They have to be drilled out to remove them. Removing the rivets from the sheet steel can be a pain as they spin as you try to drill them.

I only had one speaker working on my LX. I fitted a full set from an 05 plate Titanium that was scrapped last year. These are all still working. This is despite being 20 years old and me using the car with the radio on almost every day since they were fitted.
