CMAX 1.6 Ecoboost Gearbox

Featured Replies

Hello

Ive currently got Grand Cmax with the 1.6L EcoBoost Engine and the gearbox has blown a hole in bottom of the casing so its needing replaced but im having trouble finding a replacement gearbox.

Vin - WF0HXXWPBHDB54328

The part number on the blown gearbox is BV6R 7002 KC

Problem im having is that i cant find any that are near the part number that im taking off and that is a 6 speed gearbox

I can only find 6 speed boxes off the 1.0L Ecoboost engines.

Can anyone help with finding the correct gearbox?

Many Thanks

Scott

I would imagine MK3 Focus 1.6T and MK7 Fiesta ST used the same box.

Have you searched for those too?

Seems i might have had a bit of progress,

I've found one from a 2011 Focus 1.6 Ecoboost with the code BV6R-7002-LG

Any ideas if this is a like for like replacement for a BV6R 7002 KC

Many Thanks

Scott

I can't tell you what the difference is, but I'd be surprised if it would work.

The very last letter of the part can be different as it just indicates the revision issue. The second last letter indicates a different option, for example the gear ratio.

You'd need to look at the specs for the individual cars.

As @unofix says, probably the final drive ratio

As long as you get the correct casing and you know your internals are good, there's nothing stopping you swapping your internals to a donor casing though

But keep looking and try and find a "K" (KC, KD, KE, KF etc all good) and MUST be BV6R (all manuals are 7002)

It's probably easier to search for a Ford 6 speed gearbox and then ask the seller to read off the part number. More will come up that way

Many thanks for both your help, will keep plodding along to find one.

Am I right in thinking that the 1.6 ecoboost is fitted with a Dual Mass Flywheel too?

Thanks Again

Scott

All engines that use the 6-speed B6 transmission have a dual mass flywheel.

See a comparison of the Focus MK3 and C-max MK2 EcoBoost gear ratios below:

Both the gear ratios and final drive ratio of the 1.6 EcoBoost C-max MK2 are identical to the 1.0 EcoBoost C-max MK2 and Focus MK3.

The 1.6 EcoBoost Focus MK3 also has the same gear ratios but has a different final drive ratio.

That's brilliant many thanks for the information.

If it came to it and I ended up not being able to find a exact match to the one thats on and got one out of the MK3 Focus with a lower final drive ratio would I notice any difference?.

I'm not looking for top speeds or lightning acceleration, the cars only used to do 10 to 15 miles a day.

Apologies if I come across a bit thick, im used to working in Vauxhalls most of the time.

Again many thanks for everyone's help.

Forgot to pop some images up of the damaged box too

There's another 3 small holes, one just behind and another one onto next to where the starter goes in.

Installing a transmission with an incorrect final drive ratio will result in the following problems:

* Cruise Control wil no longer work.
* The RPM / Speed ratio will no longer match which will be detected as clutch slip --> vehicle will go into limp mode.

You can adjust the final drive ratio with FORScan though

Interesting that you mention that Dave, i done some reading about that and some say it can be done and some say it cant be done. Is there any info online about doing this?

I've done some more searching and closest i've found is a BV6R-7002-KA which is from a 2011 Focus CMAX, only problem is that its from a 1.6TDCI which i assume wont fit as its off a diesel.

Many Thanks

Scott

No.

Diesel is no good

FDR selection in FORScan is in Central Configuration

Make sure you have good internet connection if you activate as it may download files to install

Cheers Dave

Looks like getting the BV6R-7002-LG one that i posted above and using Forscan to adjust the final drive ratio is the way to go, spent a good few days searching now and thats the closest used 6 speed one i can find.

Getting a refurbished one for nearly 1k plus a new DMF and clutch just isnt worth it for what the cars used for.

Thanks for yuor help

Scott

If it does turn out to be not compatible or FORScan will not allow FDR adjustment you could always transfer your final drive into the donor gearbox

That was going to be next idea, is it a big job to swap the final drives over, im handy with tools and done loads of gearboxes and clutches but never delved inside a gearbox

Many Thanks

Scott

You could ask for a quote from a gearbox specialist to do it for you if you're unsure.

Take your damaged box out and deliver both to them to transfer, save a bit of labour

It's probably the first thing that goes in so the last to come out.

I think FORScan will allow you to change though, but I'm just worried that you go to the trouble of fitting the box and then it's got to come out again

Everything is still on the car at the moment minus the battery and airbox. I'd assume there would be no harm in popping the battery back on and seeing FORScan will allow me to change the final drive value before going to the trouble of taking the gearbox out?

Many Thanks, Scott

Very good idea👍

Personally, I do not think that the final drive ratio can be changed.

I have been working on a Focus MK3 before on which some nitwit managed to replace the B6 transmission by another B6 transmission with a different final drive ratio.

Changing the final drive ratio in the Central Car Configuration using the Ford IDS diagnostic system literally did nothing. Research showed that the final drive ratio parameter only listed the factory installed ratio and was not used for configuration on that particular car.

I found out that both the gear ratios and final drive ratios were actually hardcoded into the PCM software.

Looks like you're swapping out the final drive then if you can't source a correct spec box
