2011 focus 2.0 diesel auto intermittent misfire

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

My 2011 focus 2.0 diesel auto has just developed an intermittent fault every now and then it developes a misfire ,if your driving in town and come to a stop it cuts out, start it up and it drives fine again, on the motorway you can drive 30/40 miles and all of a sudden it starts to misfire may last a minute then perfect again, everything pointed to the ecu so removed it and had it serviced, no joy 40 miles later it started again, when it happens there's no engine light illuminated, not sure what to do next any advice would be appreciated.

Are you getting any DTCs?

Cluster especially

I'd be looking at injector wiring too in case you have any dodgy wires

Thought this was ecu issue but was wrong ?

It could be, but I'd check the wiring first in case you have a broken down wire not communicating

With a Focus 2011 model I would suspect the instrument cluster common problem first.

Have the injectors been tested ?

You really should be using FORScan to read the Ford specific DTC's.  Generic code readers mostly can't read the Ford codes, or worse they misinterpret them leading to false diagnosis.
