ford fiesta engines.

Featured Replies

hello.looking for a bit of advice on the later fiesta engines.i have been told 2020 onwards the old wet belt was replaced by a chain.but if i go for the mhev engine is that the new chain system or is it on a wet belt.thank you for any information..rob.

Hi,

It's not quite that simple.  There was a lot of crossover around 2020 and 2021.

However, all of the MHEV's use the later chain engine regardless of year.

The chain engine still uses a small wetbelt for the oil pump.

As Tom says, it gets quite complicated.

You haven't said what power you are looking for, which could simplify matters.

A brief run down of Mk 8 1.0 Ecoboost engines:

95 ps - revised (chain) engine but non-MHEV

100 ps - always wet belt

125 ps - complicated (see below)**

140 ps - always wet belt

155 ps - revised engine, always MHEV

** 125ps was originally wet belt, changed to the revised (chain) engine late 2020. Some early cars with the revised engine were non-MHEV.

You can always check back here about a car of interest - some dealers misdescribe what they are selling. If you get chance to check underbonnet, the wet belt engine is easily recognised from the front mounted turbo under the large shiny heatshield, revised engines as the second pic.

Yes

Yes again. Still looks like the second pic, just has the normal alternator/starter not the integrated starter generator (ISG) of the MHEV. We've only had a handful of members with them, so pretty rare anyway.
