Mk3 2012 1.6 Titanium rear passenger door unable to open

Featured Replies

Hi, hope someone can advise.

My rear passenger door is locked. It won't unlock with key fob. The powered window doesn't operate either. All other doors and windows operate as normal. I've checked the fuses in boot, under glovebox and engine bay.. no blown fuses. I've looked at the harness where it goes from the door into the car near the bottom door hinge. Pulled the rubber back and could see a bit of green corrosion. I've bought a complete new ford harness for the door. My issue is how do I remove the door card with the door locked shut to investigate further?

Thanks for any help

Can you not manually operate the lock switch by the inner door handle and open the door from inside the car?

There is no lock switch. Only the door handle and switch for window.

``There is no lock switch.``

Could it be the child lock switch, its in the door frame and only able to be got at when the door is open. I do not know if you can get to it when the door trim panel is removed.

i have had similar issue with my previous car with no power to the back door

hoping my thread might help you

In this video is what's wrong with mine. My stumbling block is I can't presently open the door nor do I know how to remove the door card to enable me to somehow open the door to access the wiring harness.

Thanks but I'm trying to figure out how to take the door card off with the door shut then somehow open the door and then replace the whole door wiring loom with a brand new one I bought.

The door card was only designed to be removed with the door open.  You will have to cause some damage to it to get it open without that option.

This is the type of job garages hate!  If you can get it powered, even for a brief second, that makes the job much easier.  We used to keep thumping the door around the area of the latch while pressing the unlock button to get an intermittent latch to open.  But as there's no power to your window either, that's unlikely to work in this case.

Taking the back seat out will help

If the corrosion was spotted at the door pillar connector you need to be prepared to have damage also in the main loom not just the door loom 🙁

mine got fixed after replacing the loom but it was a right hassle! but i did get it working so all good 🙂

had so many help from here otherwise i woudl never have been able do it.

Thanks for your help so far eveyone.

If I sacrificed the existing door card/cover by "ripping" it off the door, will I then be able to manipulate something to open the door so I can then focus on the wiring loom?

You say "No Power", but could it be you have no earth ?  I'm not familiar with your model, but if the earth return for the door is poor, then it may give you the same symptoms.  Earth may be in the door pillar area, or are you able to disconnect the loom and check such things with a meter ?

I noticed a couple of months back the central locking would unlock/lock all doors on command and then now and again the passenger rear door wouldn't unlock and then randomly work.

Ref the video in one of my posts above... (with my door locked shut)... I pulled back the rubber boot on that connector block at the bottom of the door pillar and could see a bit of greenish corrosion. I've now ordered a replacement door card/cover so if it means pulling off the existing door card/cover and wrecking it I have another to go back on after checking/replacing the wiring.

All fixed now. The connector block at the bottom of door pillar had corrosion in it. I cut out the old door wiring loom and fitted the new one.

Glad to see it fixed, but cannot understand that if it was an electrical problem, you could not open the door manually.

Did you have the child lock on, or was the double locking engaged ?

The 2012 model has no mechanical means to lock or unlock the door. The locking operation is by means of an electrically operated solenoid controlled by the central locking system. Earlier models have a separate mechanical 'button/leaver' which could operate the locking system.

Were you able to refit the original door card, or did you have to damage it to remove it?

You can remove the door card with the door closed. One screw behind the door lever and two hidden behind the window switch section. It wasn't damaged in the slightest.
