Rotary Croaking Sound

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 2022 1.0L ST Line and I'm hoping someone can identify what the faint engine rotary "croaking" sound is please.

Thanks

This is a harmonic vibration.  It's probably in one of the auxiliary belt pulleys and not a fault as such.

Most likely would be the AC pulley, so try it with AC both on and off to see if that makes a difference.

Also see if you can see any of the pulleys wobbling slightly when looking straight down from above.

Can you just confirm that it's not automatic?  As I am slightly concerned about it being the oil pump belt/tensioner/balance shaft.  But honestly don't think you'd hear those so loudly from outside.

Thanks for the reply. Car is manual not automatic.

No tensioner or balance shaft to worry about in that case.

Tried it with AC on and off. Was the same either way.

Not the AC pulley then.  Did you check to see if any of the pulleys are wobbling in time with the sound?

Advised today that the sound is coming from the water pump and is normal.

That's an interesting thought.  The waterpump is on the other side of the engine for these though, above the gearbox.  Was it a Ford tech that offered this advice?

No, it was Mike Fisher from the Nag's Head, and he got the info from Del Boy 🤣
