MK3 camera replacement options?

Featured Replies

Hello! I've got a 2012 Mk3 (Australian) Focus which had the Sony head unit, and the camera is losing the plot! It'll randomly drop signal, or invert the image and stay on while I'm driving rather than turning off when I pop it into neutral. I've not tested the wiring loom yet, but I did remove and re-install the camera both in the tailgate behind the 4 inch screen/navigation unit (BM5T-18B955-DC) and it's still playing up.

So, my question is; if I want to replace the camera (BM5T-19G490-JB) can I use one of the later model Ford cameras like the EJ5T-19G490-AA? I'm assuming (hoping?) that it's a better spec of camera, but that the screen is happy enough to take whatever NSTC signal it gets and display it? Or should I go looking for that exact model of camera to go with my unit? The EJ5T cameras look to be same same form factor, but I'm not sure

It's also worth noting that I've replaced the Sony unit with an Android one, but I kept the screen so that the camera would still work if the Android unit lost the plot. It had been working fine until recently, so I don't think it's the Android unit causing problems.

I can absolutely just connect any third party camera to the Android, but I like the redundancy of the OEM one with the separate screen.

Any thoughts and/or experience on the matter would be greatly appreciated!
