Recommended brands/parts for timing belt job?

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if there are any recommendations on parts for a timing belt job on a 2015 1.25L Fiesta or whether it is recommended to get genuine Ford parts.

I could be wrong but I think I have read that Ford use Dayco kit? I'm not too sure though and happy to see what everyone suggests for everything else too (water pump, belt, tensioner etc).

I'd buy a Tier 1  complete kit including water pump and you'd need coolant (very often, the dry belts can be OK but the idlers can fail?)
Names such as Dayco (as you say) Gates (We used) SKF, INA, QH etc spring to mind.

I will be doing the timing belt on my 1.6 Zetec S next week. Have all the parts sorted already, went with Dayco timing belt kit including, idler, water pump and new bolts for £89.99 from Ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132494748858

I'm doing the thermostat, thermostat housing (Ford) and a few new coolant pipes while the alternator is off for easy access. If you do the thermostat housing make sure its a decent quality one as the cheap £15-20 ones wont last 2 years.

As above you will need new coolant and idealy an new aux (stretch) belt. You will need a timing locking set on the 1.25, I've had to buy the extra cam locking tool as my is the Ti-VCT engine.
