Back door problem

Featured Replies

When I unlocked my car this morning I found that I couldn't open either of the back doors. Any ideas anyone?

No the battery is fine and was replaced last year. Showing 12.1 volts when I first switch on.

Battery has failed !!!

Needs a very good long charge, probably 24 hours.Ford - Battery SOC & Text.JPG

Just while on the subject of batteries failing. This is my own Focus Mk4 at 8:10AM this morning. The battery had been on charge overnight for a total of 16 hours.

This screen shot was taken with the engine running at ~2000RPM

The SOC is still only 77% despite a 16 hour charge. Note that the charging current from the alternator is 'zero' and the charging voltage is 14.60V In conclusion the battery is falling to accept any further charge and has maxed out at 77% seems like I need to look at replacing the battery which you will see is 888 days old. Somewhat disappointing since this is a Yuasa YBX7096  which is usually what we recommend on this forum.

I'll put it on charge now and see if that cures it.

It's on a smart charger now and is taking 2 amps. I'll leave it on until it gets dark.

In the meantime I've found a temporary solution to the problem. I can open the doors from the inside.

Left the battery on charge all night and still have the same problem. Think I might need a new batteryalthough this one was only fitted exactly a year ago.

That's a short life for a battery even by modern standards. Worth a try for a warranty claim?

Have you driven it yet?  Sometimes takes a couple of drive cycles for the non-essential electronics to start working again.

Yes Tom I've driven to my local garage this morning to get my car cleaned after some pratt threw milk powder all over it in the night. I've also driven down to the local park to walk the dog. About 4 miles altogether.

I think part of the problem is that, since my friend in Swanwick died about 6 months ago, I now only do a little over 2 miles a day.

FWIW when I've charged either of my last Fiestas I've found it takes a bit more to settle down again. A typical thing might be a couple of 12 mile round trips. But sometimes more, sometimes much less - as we've said on other threads, there seems very little logic to these battery issues.

Fit a higher capacity battery

Had to get my eyes tested this morning so I've had a drive out to Eastwood. When I got back the battery charge on switch on was showing 12.6 volts and all the doors opened fine.

Took the car into Fords yesterday and they tested the battery and it was fine. They said that they thought leaving the TomTom plugged in all the time was draining the battery. I disconnected the TomTom last night and turned it off but this morning the TomTom wouldn't start as the battery was flat. I think they might be right. I've connected it to my laptop and it's charging.
