Failed mot

Featured Replies

My friends Mum’s fiesta has failed it’s mot on “Nearside rear axle pins and bushes swivel pin and/or bush excessively worn rear beam bush. This is off side also. Nearside front suspension arm ball joint excessively worn. They want 600 plus to repair it. Is it a reasonable price? It’s on an A plate so quite old. Thanks. Ian

Hi,

An A plate would've been 1983.  I don't think that's correct?

Since 2001 (Y) number plates started using a different system for the year.

If this is a Mk6 or Mk7 (2002-2017) then that price isn't too bad.  Rear axle bushes take a lot of labour time to change, not a simple spanner job.  And they're probably fitting a complete new front wishbone, which will also require wheel alignment afterwards.

Might be able to knock £100 off by shopping around, but I wouldn't expect much below £500 in total.

Hi. It starts A063. I’m not sure what year it is

Correct if this is a UK registration plate 👍

However, the poster has put their location as being not in the UK and it's a 2026 model !!! 🙁

The car belongs to a friends Mum, she lives in Essex. It seems to be a 2013/14 model according the another reply

I’ve just amended it to 2014

That's good, but the location is still confusing since it's saying this is not a UK car. Just change it to Essex and then we know that it's RHD and UK spec.

I’ve just updated it again. It’s my friends mum’s car, it’s a uk spec, RHD. Based in Essex. The confusion came about because I now live in Spain, but am still in touch with my friend And am trying to help him because he and his mum know even less about cars than I do lol

In that case it is a Mk7.  (Well, Mk7 facelift).  So my original post still stands.
