2019 ford focus 1.5 182 catalytic converter clean

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just purchased a used cat online as mine has failed. I have been thinking about giving it a clean before fitting it. Any recommendations for a cleaner or best way to do it? Seen online that it needs to be pressure washed a certain direction etc. Any help would be great. All the best

Do you mean a catalytic converter (petrol AND diesel) or a DPF (diesel only)?
Not clear from your profile if you are petrol or diesel and no history of fault or reason given?
If you have bought one hopefully with some sort of warranty, ask the supplier because if you do something against their conditions they won't refund or change?
DPF's DO need a reverse flush when ash build up becomes a problem at very high mileages but normal cats are a pass though device where the coating mediates the chemical reaction once it gets hot enough so AFAIK, doesn't need flushing?

Edit: some of your posts look like it's petrol?

1.5 182 means petrol EcoBoost.

I don't know whether a 2019 model had a GPF though.  Cats can be washed either way.  DPF/GPF can only be back flushed.

But honestly I wouldn't risk damaging it by trying to wash it.  If any ash gets wet and stays in there then it'll set like concrete and cause a permanent restriction.  I'd just fit it as is personally.

I would think so. There's a thread somewhere on here about GPF. Iirc GPF was fitted to engines conforming to the Euro 6.2 emissions standard, which the Focus 4 was from launch.

It does have a combined Cat/GPF. I'm with Tom, I would not try to clean it.
