Focus Mk1 rear lower control arm removal

Featured Replies

Good evening Guys. I thought I would replace the rear springs and lower control arms on My O4 Focus. Then I read some of the write ups of Guys that tried this lol. Are they really that bad to do? I had wire brush, plus gas and torque wrench in mind. Not blow torch and disc cutter use.

Why not give it a try and come back and tell us how easy it was ? 👍

Good luck on a Ford that is over 20 Years old!

I suggest to keep the blowtorch and disc cutter anywhere close when starting this job. Most of these bolts are assembled dry (no lubrication) at the factory. Some may have a dry locking agent applied. Either way there is a 99% chance that all bolts will be seized solid by now.

I have seen these bolts being seized solid on a Ford after just 3 Years.

I've no idea what kind of Pornography you're posting with your Kuga, but the UK government have decided it's too extreme for us sensitive Brit's to be able to view 🤣

It's not hard at all I did a lot to the mk1 l used to have, the bolt in the last photo is the camber bolt set them to push out at full n you'll find it corners a lot more better than a hatch that hasn't had them done.. get some white vinegar cleaning spray it works way better than wd40 it eats away at the rust 👍🏻

Also if the lower arms are only rusty keep them just get the bush's replaced ( or if you diy burn them out bend the metal inwards with a hammer n chisel then use a lump hammer and socket piece to knock the new in ) after market 1s crack about halfway inbetween because the metal isn't as strong as what ford used.

Also while l remember lol... if your boot button is playing up or if not a good solution in stead of finding a replacement ( if you pop it out you'll see a little rubber pad it slowly breaks from being a bowl type shape ) get a small little spring to help with it it being pushed back out it'll reduce the breakage time.

Power steering pipes fit each other no matter the model they just run a diffrent direction but non interfere with any moving part.

Clean the throttle position sensor, idle control valve ( you need a thin screwdriver to nock the pin out that holds it down ), throttle body even though it doesn't work the same as a carb it improves fuel use and acceleration.
