Heated rear window button is disabling DAB / Radio

Featured Replies

Used my rear heated screen tonight for the first time in ages, and instantly the radio lost reception (Ford DAB with sync 1). The aerial is not built into the rear window its sticking up from the roof 😛

Any suggestions?

The aerial on the roof is for FM and Sat Nav (if fitted).

The rear screen is used as the DAB aerial on most cars since the horizontal elements offer the best reception. Mounted in the tailgate (on the Focus Mk4 and possibly Mk3) is the DAB aerial isolator and amplifier unit. It provides isolation of the aerial signal from the 12V power of the rear window.

I had this on my Mondeo. I had a tiny  break in one of the element wires. When the screen was damp and the heater was put on, I guess it arced and caused "noise" which shut down the DAB. Quite hard to trace with a meter, because of the way the wires are arranged, but worth  looking for a section that is not defogging, then use a paint on electrical liquid to rejoin the wire
