Ford Classic -- tyre upsize discussion

Featured Replies

Hi,   I am planning to change my Ford Classic's tyre to next upsize. the stock tyre is 175/65 R14  -- planning to go 185/65 R14.

is this OK,  need  atechnical input

This is a UK based forum. The Ford Classic (2011/2015) has never been sold in the UK or the rest of Europe. From what I can find it is not even related to the European Fiesta from that era. Do not expect to get much response.

Anyhow, tyre sizes are configured as follows:

175 = Thread width = 175 mm
65 = tyre height = 65% of the thread width
R14 = diameter of the wheel = 14 Inch

This means that a 185/65 R14 tyre is not only 10 mm wider but also 13 mm larger in diameter compared to a 175/65 R14 tyre. This results in a 2.2% larger diameter. On most vehicles this is not a problem but as already mentioned the Ford Classic is totally unknown to us so we cannot say for sure whether this size will or will not fit.

Designed and built for the Indian market, I think?

I made a similar comment about my friends new Range Rover when JLR were acquired by Tata - it didn't go down well!😀
