It won't start if there's no compression.  First check is to make sure none of the spark plugs have threaded.  Second check is the compression on each cylinder.

The starter is turning the gearbox through the crank.  That doesn't prove anything about the engine.

compression is good plug leads good still same no start

If it's got compression & spark then it's missing fuel.

I take it the plugs were dry when you removed them?  

Can you hear the fuel pump whining with just ignition on (not cranking)?

Is the immobiliser light flashing on the dash?

thank you everyone for your advise it was cam belt had jumped a few teeth

That is strange. The 1.8 petrol Focus does not have a cam belt.

oh that is what I was told

so I sold it to someone else and they sorted it out I think as I

had a stroke and dvla took my licence due to sight loss
