All chimes coming out of cluster constantly?

Featured Replies

Hi all, can see this is a common issue. I've got a 71 plate fiesta active vignale. The chimes are playing out of the dash cluster constantly. They never play out of the speakers. I thought this might be a battery issue and took it in and my battery was 6% (they couldnt believe it was driving!) They replaced the battery and reset the ACM module but no joy, its still playing out of the cluster. The BMS was reset and I've tried resetting the sync system but nothing works. Really thought replacing the battery would do it. I've also downloaded the latest update and applied it. As far as anything else goes, Ford don't seem to have a clue how to fix it. Does anyone know how I can get the chimes back to playing through the speakers?

It's a setting in the cluster through programming

Is this something that can be changed in forscan?

No.

Use a multimeter and measure your car battery voltage after it has been standing overnight. If the State Of Charge is 60% or less then you need to use a Smart battery charger and fully charge the battery for a minimum of 12 hours.

Forgive me for being a complete dummy in this topic but does a brand new battery not necessarily mean that the state of charge would be high?

Absolutely not.

Firstly all brand new batteries are supplied only partly charged, and should be charged using a Smart charger for at least 12 hours before fitting to the vehicle.

Secondly all modern cars do not charge the batteries sufficiently and the battery 'State Of Charge' will decrease over a period of weeks. Many people (including myself) have to 'top up' the battery with a charger about every 4 to 5 weeks.

Lastly, even if you drive to the Moon and back, the car will only charge the battery to a maximum of 80% this is all in the name of saving the planet and reducing emissions.

So in short a brand new battery proves nothing other than it has the capability to hold a charge.

Saying "-ECU_POWER_SUPPLY: 14.7 V - ECU Power Supply Voltage" is of no use. That is the voltage with the engine running and not the SOC.

Posted before about chimes going to the cluster, update with some DTCS. Ford cant work the issue out and I've had a new battery put in.

DTCs are:

  • ===IPMA DTC U0253:00-28===

Code: U0253 - Lost Communication With Accessory Protocol Interface Module

  • ===APIM DTC U2013:63-08===

Code: U2013 - Switch Pack

Additional Fault Symptom (:63):

 - Circuit/Component Protection Time-Out

Status (-08):

 - Previously Set DTC - Not Present at Time of Request

 - Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC

Module: Accessory Protocol Interface Module

===END APIM DTC U2013:63-08===

I've checked and the chimes are set to audio speakers only so there's definitely an issue making them fall back to the cluster. I'm not sure what to do as how can I get it fixed if even a Ford garage can't seem to work out what's wrong? I reset the modules and still the same result. Anyone ever fixed this?

Are there any other issues with any aspect of the audio system ?

Does the radio sound normal and does the phone Bluetooth system fully work ?

You really need a Ford 'Master auto-electrician' to look at the car. Very few dealerships have a proper auto-electrician.

Radio sounds normal and bluetooth seems to work fine, just the chimes and I don't get any audio cues for when I switch to reverse. I'll have a google for auto-electricians as Ford have looked at it twice now and don't seem to have a clue why its acting like this

Thanks for this info, I'll delete that section

I think it would be a good idea to get a multimeter if you don't already have one.

You are going to have to help yourself before you will get much help from Ford.

For only £11.99 you can get one from Screwfix or B&Q which will do the job. Simple to use and will help get some basic information.

Just an update and follow up question:

took it into ford again and they told me that because I have a digital dashboard and front sensors, this means my chimes play out the cluster. Its a feature. They then showed me it on a puma.

are they fobbing me off here? I dont understand why they’d put an old chime out of the cluster on a new 2022 Ford Fiesta Vignale.

Yes !

Cost saving ?

I didn't think proper Vignale was still offered on the facelift in 2022?  Sure it's not a Titanium Vignale or ST Line Vignale instead?  The Vignale name just replaced 'X' on those, it was no longer a flagship model.

Sadly the Mk8 Fiesta spec got worse and worse until they finally stopped building them altogether.  The Fiesta cost too much to build by the end, no longer a profitable model.

It's an Active Vignale (previously Active X) according to the OP. The original Vignale as a distinct high spec model disappeared pre-facelift and they seem to have used the Vignale name for a while instead of "X". It was back to being an Active X by the end of production.

Thanks for letting me know! Thought as much, amazes me even ford themselves are willing to lie instead of just admitting they don’t know. At least at my local centre anyway.

They are only following government policy.

Never ever tell the truth even when everyone knows your lying 🤣
