2 TPMS sensors not being detected after wheel refurb - help!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I hope someone can help with an issue I have.

I had the two drivers side wheels powder coated on my June 2020 car.

When I picked it up the tire pressures for those wheels were showing 33 and 1 PSI.

The car wasn't showing a TPMS error.

I went back to the wheel place and they showed me that the TPMS sensors had been refitted and they looked ok although one was showing as having a low battery. They reset the TPMS in the car with a scan tool and for those wheels they now both show "--". We then used an Amazon Ford TPMS relearn tool, but it only picked up the passenger side wheels and not the refurbished ones.

Any idea what's going on, I have driven about 5 miles and left it a couple of hours later to see if the system picks them up but nothing so far!

I took the car to Kwik Fit and they put two new sensors in  for £120 and it is working perfectly now.

Turns out that the sensors that were in the wheels were Ford, but not for a 2020 Fiesta so it looks like the wheel place didn't fit the sensors that came out of the wheels.

So the wheel place should really cough up for the new sensors but I am going to struggle to get them to admit they made a mistake.

Were they the genuine solid gold sensors ?

A set of 4 costs less than £28 and then £15 to £20 per wheel for fitting.
