Growling/rattle from engine when cold and at biting point

Featured Replies

Hi, i have a 2007 fiesta zetec s 1.6 petrol.

Been having an issue for a few months where the car makes a growling/rattle when moving off when the engine is cold.

After the engine has got a bit of heat, the noise completely disappears. It sounds like its coming from the pulley side of the engine.

It only happens when at the biting point and starting the move, if i give it more revs, the noise isn't there so its only when at low revs.

I replaced the timing belt around 1 month ago, along with a new tensioner and a genuine ford water pump, and the noise is still there so i have eliminated these.

I checked the pulleys by hand when doing the cambelt and they all felt good with no play or roughness.

Any ideas where to start with this as its hard to pinpoint exactly where its coming from.

Cheers 🙂

Quite possibly the alternator pulley.

Take the auxiliary belt off an try the car without it for 5 minutes and see if the noise has gone.

Yeah i was thinking that. The alternator is only a year or 2 old and it felt smooth with no play when i checked it.
