Diverse Driving Modes in the Ford Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hello, I need help.

First question: Does the 2018 Ford Fiesta 1.0 MK8 ST-Line have ECO, SPORT, and NORMAL modes?

Why I ask this: I bought a 2018 Ford Fiesta 1.0 MK8 ST-Line, but with the Puma dashboard.

When I press the ECO button, nothing happens.

I did some research and made some changes in ForScan, but it still didn't work. Can anyone help me?

I made these changes for testing purposes:

ENABLE/DISABLE ECO MODE

FORScan → IPC As-Built: BEFORE: 720-01-01  0F4A  3464  203A AFTER: 20-01-01  0C4A  3464  203A

ENABLE/DISABLE DRIVE MODE

FORScan → IPC As-Built: BEFORE: 720-07-01  0001 0000 0030 AFTER: 720-07-01  0801 0000 0030

Most common values:

• 00 → No modes (hidden screen)

• 04 → Normal and Sport only

• 08 → Normal and Eco only

• 0C → Normal, Eco and Sport (recommended in your case)

DRIVE MODE MENU

Configuration and Programming → BCM (Body Control Module) → As-Built format: BEFORE:726-12-01 0A0A 1211 0279 AFTER: 726-12-01 020A 1211 0279

I found this on the internet:

00 No driving modes, no Eco.

02 Eco Mode active (and possibly gear shift indicator, depending on the rest of the line).

06 Eco Mode + Shift Indicator active.

0A No Eco Mode, with another type of drive mode (usually Normal/Sport — used in the Puma).

0E Sport + Normal + no Eco (ST configuration).

I'd like to get the echo button working, can anyone help me with that?

Where can I find the as-built data descriptions for each byte, so I know what I need to change?

Has anyone done this before?

No Sport as standard in 2018 UK ST-Line models. It just had default Normal and Eco (which was useless imo) by pressing the Eco button.

I believe @a7mag3ddon tried to get Eco mode working with a Puma instrument panel fitted to a Fiesta. I don't know if they ever got it working.

Kind of yes, and kind of no. You need two instrument clusters to get it to work 🤣

This is the fuller thread on trying to get this to work:

Fwiw I think the ST-Line got the selectable drive modes (Eco, Normal and Sport) for the 2020 MY, but iirc the digital cluster only became available on Fiestas for the facelift (Mk 8.5).

This stuff is way beyond my pay grade, but I think the point has been made somewhere that if fitted to an earlier Fiesta, the digital cluster is looking for modes that aren't there?

Haha you don't need 2 clusters, I was simply connecting a second cluster to get some live data off the car and testing to see if you can restore eco mode functionality, which I proved you could.

I've not had chance to revisit this as yet, I moved my prototype canbus sniffer into a ODB case with USB C to make it easier and that's as far as I've gotten with it at the moment.

Interesting to see the direction you've gone with this and Im not myself very familiar with as-built byte editing but I'll certainly be following along.

Also if you need any help with testing things etc I'm more than willing to give anything a go.

What I did discover was that it's definitely the digital cluster not sending out the correct data out but oddly even after recording the eco mode data from the cluster and playing it back it doesn't change the mode.

You can reconnect the second cluster just using the HS Can3 wires though an it does restore Eco.

I need to do more investigation on the data being sent and received on HSCan3, record a 10 minute segment of real life driving so I can play it back on the bench and back to the car see what happens.

I would like to activate only ECO and NORMAL modes.
When I press the button, I don't know if it's in eco or normal mode because it doesn't show on the display.

Yeah that's what I was trying to achieve too, you can easily enable driving modes so long as you have the newer ABS modules which I don't have in my car because it's a 2018 model, I only have normal and eco.

With a second cluster connected on the Canbus you can see that eco is restored and it does appear (on the analogue screen) and works as should but you don't get anything on the digital one at all. Could do with someone allowing me to record the data from a newer model car that has more than one mode but I don't know anyone local with one sadly. Want to see what happens when I play it back in an older fiesta.

I'm looking forward to it, I'll be rooting for it to work!
