The Ghost II imobiliser pays off

Featured Replies

Last night two youths managed toi get into my car. Not sure how they did it as both keys were in a Faraday box.

They spent several minutes trying to start the car but without success thanks, I think, to the Gost II imobiliser.

Unlike when my last car was stolen, they didn't manage to turn the internet off so I've got some excellent images on CCTV which are off to the police.

Great news from the police this morning. Two arrested for attempted theft.

Fantastic. Unfortunately the ultimate outcome is likely to be a conditional discharge or a caution rather than time in jail. ☹️

Might sound a extreme but I'd remove the ignition fuse if things are that bad. As to the bags they only stop the signals travelling so far plus they keep getting more sophisticated stuff, some l would imagine are getting a new model to work on so they can keep upto date, as its all computerised it'll not take them long to work out what signal the cars emmit and produce a working program that seeks it very well.

The keys were in a Faraday Box not a bag. I tested the box and with it held at the side of the car the doors won't open. I'm hoping that the police will get out of them how they opened the door.

The easiest way to open the door even on a modern car is still through the key barrel.

Were there any signs of lock picking or damage around it?

I never thought to look Tom. I'll have a good look when it's light in the morning.

I've had a policeman round this evening to take a statement. Apparently when the local police saw the CCTV recording they recognised the two youths. They set up a squad to keep an eye on them and caught them in the act of trying to steal another car earlier this evening. They admitted to the attempted theft of my car and Tom was dead right. They picked the lock.

I thought the ST models were more prone to theft compared to the standard models but I understand both are targeted. Sorry to hear!

There's been a lot of thefts of standard Fiestas in this area. My last Fiesta was stolen together with another from down the road on the same night. That's why I had the Ghost II Immobiliser fited.

I could be wrong, but chances are it'll be a case of deporting over seas where they'll get like 3+ times the value of them new here as parts of whole sale. To places that they would be like 10x what we pay it might sound ridiculous but it probably cost them half the amount from 1 here including shipping than where ever there going to. Plus the fiesta is smaller they fit more in 1 container than they would luxury cars plus less chance of trackers being fitted.

The copper who took my statement called in today to tell me what was happening. Apparently the two youths who were caught have a lot of previous form and have been remanded in custody to appear at Crown Court.

Hopefully they get a judge who has been subject to it himself. Rather than one who will say oohhh kids will be kids now run off and don't do it again.

The copper who took my statement has just informed me that the two youths who tried to steal my car won't be stealing any more cars for at least two years. Result.

The YouTuber, Mat Armstrong, has been caught a couple of times now with a 'ghost' system. In fixing up a super/hyper car when no amount of attempts to get car to turn over, transpires it had a 'ghost' fitted. Ghost were spectacularly unhelpful even when proof of ownership supplied - don't forget your sequence LOL
