Rear Hub Nut Settings

Featured Replies

Hey there, so basically im having some trouble with the rear hub nut on my ford fiesta '51 plate. The haynes manual says that it should be torqued up to 235NM, however as i didnt have a torque wrench that could reach that, i asked around and i've been hearing all different things such as "hand tightened then tightened a few turns". Is the 235NM right or is it supposed to be done up any other way?

Also when i replaced the wheel bearings i got a different set to what originally was on the car (they do fit and i've been told they are the correct ones). Just to check, in which order should the bearings be positioned?

thanks

235Nm is correct

what do you mean, in what order should the bearings be positioned? it should be a one piece sealed bearing..

Thanks for confirming the torque settings, should it then be loosened by half turn as i have been advised by others? or not?

The bearings came in seperate sets that you had to position inside the hub, but i think i got that sorted now.

no, torque it to 235Nm and thats all :)

hmm, i know the kind of bearings you are talking about. are you fitting them into the old bearing shell?(thats pressed into the hub)

EDIT: does your kit contain - inner and outer bearings oil seal and grease? more like a repair kit that means you dont need to press the middle bit out?

yeh thats what the kit contained, i think i sorted it out now, up on stands and just needs to be torqued up. Sadly, it came off the stands and the fuel tank got mildly dented, im hoping i wont need a new one :/
