I've got a 1.2 fiesta studio (2017) a few months ago and its been fine until today. drove a short distance to petrol station and when i went back to it i saw a "key not detected" message and the car wouldnt start. all the lights etc come on then off but it doesnt crank. i went back to it an hour or so later and it worked fine. i drove it home and tried again; turn off, turn on, started, turn off, turn on, started then third time not joy - no crank no thing - all the lights. The odd thing is that even when it does start, it's still saying no key detected. I only have one key unfortunately. I've put the battery on charge overnight in case its that but i wanted to see if anyone out there had seen this?

Your Mk7 Fiesta keyfob battery is dying.

Put a new expensive good quality CR2032 battery in the fob and all will be well.

ok, i did think that but its battery-less. there's no buttons.  I think its only got a transponder in i, a bit like thist : 

I think you need to clarify exactly what car this is. In your profile it's a 2014, in your query it's a 2017? 

Either way, a Mk 7 facelift (aka Mk 7.5) and presumably it's a 1.25.

That key looks a bit odd - is it an original Ford key? 

The Studio is a bit of an outlier as it was mainly for fleet customers and I haven't seen a spec** for it, but Iirc all other Fiesta versions at that time had a remote key. (Possibly in some cases the car was supplied with one remote key and the spare key is a "manual one"). 

** According to Parkers guide (not the most reliable souce, unfortunately) it would have had remote locking when new.

 

sorry, my bad yes it's a 2014. the key is Ford stamped but its the only one we have so it is possible there was another remote one. trying the car again today, with a full battery and its more intermitent. think i'll pay a visit to ford tomorrow and get a bit more background on the car if i can.
