Pcm Kaput!

Please help guys :)

Vehicle Details-

Make & Model: Fiesta

Year: 2007; Miles clocked: "15002"

Engine: 1.4 L , Duratorq-TDCi

Background:

As I started driving I noticed the "Battery Warning Light" illuminates permanently.Immediately, switched-off the AC, Fan and rushed to the nearest Ford workshop.

There was no Engine Light "On" (MIL), neither while driving nor, while admitting the Car into the garage.

Findings reported by the garage:

"As per the diagnosis done on the scanner, we found that the alternator is not charging the battery; radiator fan is working at high RPM and AC compressor clutch does not engage at times due to the PCM has a internal short which in turn has also damaged the alternator."

Advice sought:

1)When there is no Engine Warning Light On (MIL), then how can it be

PCM failure?

2)In any circuit there is a fuse to take-care of shorting, wouldn't a

shorting lead to fuse blow-off and thus protect PCM?

3)Does the diagnosis appear correct?

thanks

Raulph
