Old mobiles to nolonger work

Featured Replies

So as an update to the digital IDs, there is some who have decided its still being introduced, But you've no need to worry if you dont have a smart phone mobile because they have you covered in the way of the id card but dont worry still they have decided that 3g is no longer required so phone companies are switching off the 3G network ( apparently its the government's decision ) so non smart mobiles will nolonger work after a certain point. I got a txt yesterday about this from giffgaff ( owned by 02 ) telling me that my Mobile number will need to be transferred to a 4G Mobile or it won't won't work when they shut the 3G network off. Happy days are coming to know where you are when they want 😎👍.

Missed words.

3G has been off on some networks for over a year, Vodafone/3 included

My number hasn't changed

When they switch 3G off, if your mobile won't do 4G or 5G then it won't work for things that require data. It will continue to work for calls and texts as those still work on the 2G network which isn't being switched off any time soon.

That is brilliant to know as l bought this mobile specifically for non Internet use plus being sick of having to update the apps and calls and txt not to be coming through all the time. At £15 n looking like new in the box since 95 ish ( updated it was 05 ) l wasn't going to turn it down..

Mine since 98 when they released this mobile 27 years ago didn't have the name easy along the bottom though.

My first phone was a Motorola 8800x in 1990. Couldn't transfer number, SIM cards hadn't been invented then LOL
