Quick Clear Windscreen

Featured Replies

I have a 2012 Fiesta Zetec and everything points to it having a quick Clear Windscreen.  Prob is, it doesn't appear to work.  I found a really helpful diagram of the fuse board matching mine and it says the fuses should be in 32 & 33. When I went to look at 32 and 33, there were no pins for the fuse to insert over. Does this mean I don't have the quick clear function on my car?   When I press the quick clear button in the vehicle, the light does illuminate but nothing happens. Its not the original windscreen but the old one did have filaments and so has the new one.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

I suspect that the fuse box might have variations in manufacturing. If you have the button, and it lights up, then the heated screen should be standard. I expect there is a relay in the circuit* which has failed and  this is a cheap fix.

* For those that don't know, a relay is a switch worked by an electromagnet. The switch on the dashboard would melt if it were supplying all the power needed by the screen so instead it powers the electromagnet which attracts the heavy duty contact that does the real work.  You need to know if the screen is being powered and if you are not electrically inclined, any auto electrician will know what to look for and will be both quicker and cheaper than a Ford dealer. Better still, he will test it with knowledge, not guesswork. Show him this and let him take it from there.

BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS,

CHARGE THE BATTERY FULLY.

The screen is locked out if the battery is low.

The heated front windscreen on your model will only work if the outside ambient temperature is at or below 7oC and the battery State Of Charge must be at least 65% or more.

There are at least 2 different fusebox types fitted to a 2012 Fiesta Mk7. If both the drivers side and passenger side of the screen are not working it is unlikely to be a fuse or a relay since each half of the screen has it's own supply.

Has the screen ever worked since the new windscreen was fitted ?

You can visually check. Look at the sky through your windscreen, if you can see very fine wavy lines in the glass (these are the heating elements), you have a heated screen...
