Good afternoon all

 

My partner recently passed her driving test and purchased herself a 2009 Fiesta 4 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago she took a drive to her friends and upon leaving, it wouldn't start on the first few turns of the key but did eventually start. She returned home and I took a look at it, it wouldn't start once again and the PATS red light was flashing rapidly, I changed the FOB battery to no avail. I checked the car battery and it was almost dead so we bought a new one and it seemed to cure the issue for the next week.

The following week we were going out for a drive and it wouldn't start and the PATS light was flashing. She'd driven it to work all week but it had been sat for 2 days. I checked the battery again, it was a bit low which I figured was because we'd tried to start it a few times, so I charged it. The car still wouldn't start with a fully charged battery.

She has 2 keys, one with buttons, one without. I've downloaded ForScan, purchased a VGate VLinker FS cable and plugged it in today to check the if the keys are the problem. They were both registered on the PATS system, but upon looking at the DTC's I could see code B10D7:87-2F which I'm aware means the key is not programmable. I attempted to programme the keys to the car following the instructions on the ForScan page, to no avail.

I've been in touch with a mobile locksmith who's going to come during the week and cut 2 new keys.

I've also been in touch with the individual who sold us the car. Although it was sold as seen, and the warranty doesn't cover electrical faults, I'm hopeful they may offer to help with the cost of 2 new keys. It may be wishful thinking. 😏

 

We also had code C0034 for the right front wheel speed sensor which I will have to get looked at once the key issue is sorted. I'm wondering if this is why the battery was low after a couple days of being sat.

 

My query is, how could it have been that the car started fine for the first couple of weeks of ownership? And then all of a sudden stops working?
