Rev Counter for 2000 Fiesta Endura E

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a previous post about fitting a temperature gauge to 2000 Fiesta 1.3 Endura E engine. Got some good advise and have some things to check up on now.

Another thing I taught about doing was to fit a rev Counter if I could as the car came with the poverty spec instrument cluster. I have an instrument cluster out of a ghia model and when

I plugged that into my car the rev counter works. It being a 2000 car it has a digital dash, the earlier cars had an analogue setup. I can't use this cluster as the mileage on it is twice the mileage on my car and I have no way to reduce the mileage, it can only be increased using Forscan. The digi dash rev counter is a 4 pin type where all 4 pins go into a chip on the printed circuit board. I also have an instrument cluster from an earlier analogue car which has a rev counter. The rev counter is a 3 pin type. I was wondering if anyone would know since I have a signal coming from the PCM/ECU for the rev counter to my current instrument cluster but don't have the electronic circuitry on the printed circuit board to work it. If I fitted the analogue 3 pin rev counter in my instrument cluster and wire up the + battery and - Battery and connect the signal terminal to the wire that coming from PCM to instrument cluster. Would that work in theory or is there other circuitry needed to operate a rev counter. On the analogue cluster I have there doesn't seem to be anything just the gauge but maybe there is something different in older PCM's. Just wondering if anyone has any opinion or insight. Thanks.

Just follow the wiring diagrams

The cluster already has all the power it needs going to it.

You'll find it's just a plug and pin swap, which the diagrams will tell you

I really wouldn't worry about the mileage on a car this age.

Just keep the original cluster, MOT history will prove what's happened

Thanks for your reply. I bought the genuine ford wiring diagrams for 1999 1/2 to 2000 1/2 fiesta and they are a waste of time. Doesn't give the basic instrument cluster diagrams at all. Will work through with what I have and hope for the best.

There is 54K miles on the car at the moment and the Ghia cluster I have with the temp gauge and rev counter has 92K miles. too much of a mileage jump really.

I think the mileage on a 2000 cluster may be able to be adjusted down.

Can you post a photo of the cluster (front and back) ?

Here are the pictures of the instrument cluster I took out of a ghia model. It was a 2002 car. The wires on the last image is me trying to wire an analogue temp gauge into it.
