Towbar fitting for bike carrier

Featured Replies

Hi

Anyone done this on the fiesta please? If so, any recommendation for one please? Ideally will need electrics and is it possible to have removable towbar ball socket so it's not seen unless you need it?

Many thanks

You could consult your local tow bar supplier for options OR ...
Do you mean you are going to fit it, if so, will need to source detachable towbar, for example:

Then carrier, example:

Whilst you may want a basic electrical package (which personally I wouldn't use as we tow a caravan) I think it far better to stick to dedicated electrical system.
With only a bike carrier, I'm unsure how a simple trailer board plugged into a dedicated system, would affect the car's knowledge and things like parking sensors, rear foglights, reversing lights etc etc so I'll stop there.

No I wouldn't want to fit myself. I'm curious what you say about the electrics though and a basic package? I just assumed whoever I get to fit it, there would only be one correct way of doing the electrics, i.e. so all the lights on the bike rack work

Dedicated electrics plug in to the car's wiring loom and tell it that a trailer is connected so (in the case of a caravan) it cuts out the rear parking sensors, reversing lights, fog lights etc as these are taken care of by the caravan rear lights.

It also sets up the trailer program in case of emergency braking etc.

For that reason it costs more but is highly recommended for caravan or large trailer.

You can get a very basic kit that just parallels in the relevant lights but the car doesn't know there's a trailer connected

In your case, if you will only ever use a trailer board I would check with the tow bar fitters to discuss options.

Personally on a modern car, I'd always go with vehicle specific wiring, sure there is a premium attached to it. But the rear parking sensors constantly going (they are always active even when going forwards just at a reduced sensitivity) the car then can also do bulb out warnings for the trailer board too.
