Mk7 Fiesta Rear Bushes

Featured Replies

Hi All, apologies if this has been covered before but couldn't find anything in the search.

Changing the rear bushes on a MK7 fiesta for poly bushes as the old ones are shot. All very common as we know.

The issue is the bolt through the actual bush holding onto the bracket just won't come off. I have a large dewalt impact gun on full power together with a 15mm spanner on the back, there was a bit of movement but after that nothing. Had soaked in penetrative fluid beforehand and wire brushed everything beforehand too.

I'm thinking next step is to cut it out with a reciprocating saw/angle grinder but just wondering if anyone had this issue before? Or should I try again before cutting them out?

Do you mean you can't undo the nut or the bolt is stuck in after removing the nut?

If you mean you can't undo the nut then the impact gun is lacking the power needed, these are done up pretty tight and years of corrosion won't help. A good old 3ft 1/2" power bar with an extension will make easy work of it, you may need to loosen/tighten a few times and clean the rust off the threads as you go.

Once you get the nuts off you will need to undo the mounting bracket (3 bolts) on at least the drivers side as you won't be able to remove the bolt with the exhaust in the way. I found it easier to just release the both mounting brackets as it made it easier to drill out the old bushes with it lower down. I was replacing both the mounting brackets anyway so made more sense for me 😁

White vinegar kitchen cleaner loves eating rust better than most penatrants ( massively better than dw40 ) it only needs about 5 mins to eat through a good amount..

It is this 1 that l know works brilliantly l also when possible get the black label version as that's a stronger version

Safety disclaimer.....🙂 Just want to add, if you do remove the mounting brackets then make sure you have a jack/block of wood under the rear beam and lower to the desired height once you have all 6 mounting bracket to body bolts removed.

Photo of new bracket along with all new Ford fixings, with some of the money you have saved by doing it yourself you can spend on new fixings. Future proofed 😁
