Renewed battery in the key fob!

Featured Replies

Just renewed the battery in my key fob, It unlocks & locks the car.

Does the fob require marrying up with the car since I changed the battery ?

Not tried to start the car up yet so thought I'd ask if anything needs doing.

Cheers.
Ian.

If it's a key-barrel ignition, the chip system is entirely 'mechanical'.  The car will start even without a fob battery fitted.

If it's keyless start then the fob needs to be powered, but shouldn't lose connection just from a quick battery change.

Just basic key barrel Tom, thanks for replying on this subject, I remember changing the car battery in 2012, stereo wouldn't work and the doors wouldn't lock or unlock, made me panic somewhat......

On another note about the battery in the key fob....

Battery change by Timpson £15 😬 😲

Crikey - that's 1.5 X my first weekly wage! As the Mk 8 seems to need a change every 3 years I'll stick with diy!

(On a happier note, I paid a couple of pounds extra at Timpsons for a "lifetime guaranteed" watch battery in 2005. It won't last a lifetime of course, you just get a free replacement if you've still got the guarantee card (which obviously they hope you lose). Can't remember how many I've had now!😀)

I asked the guy in Timpsons what battery is used, he replied ''we use excellent Panasonic batteries for all replacements'' :rolleyes1:

Panasonic 2032 batteries are dirt cheap, seen packs of 20 for £3, can't imagine they last that long :frusty:

In 2003 I bought a 1.7 puma from Cd Bramall that came with free servicing for life. So I quickly laminated the crappy slip of paper they gave me with this on and kept the car for 13 years 😁

Those are probably fake sadly.  The genuine Panasonic ones are decent, they've been my preferred brand over the last few years.
