Condensation on front screen on cold morings.

Featured Replies

This is a regular problem, when it has been cold over night, is there any advice that could be shared to reduce the effect of condensation on those days

Thank You.

Terry.

If it's just a thin layer then that's normal and to be expected at this time of year.  Switch on the heated front screen and it should clear within about a minute.

If it's running with large droplets then there's likely to be water in the car, usually in the boot or footwell carpets.

I use these pouches on the dashboard in both my Focus and Berlingo, and they certainly work well.

Just "recharge" then when the indicator turns pink by putting them in the microwave for 6 minutes.

Available from Halfords and Amazon.

A failed bottom windshield trim caused condensation on the screen. Water was running under the trim onto the sound-deadening material in the engine bay. The warm engine evaporated the moisture, and the vapour entered the cabin via vents whilst parked, condensating on the screen, repaired with roof and gutter sealant. The screen rarely steams up now.

Ours like that when our car was brand new, Ford declined to do anything, giving us crap the plastic cover is cosmetic but about a year in I noticed the sound deadening material was wet through, couldn't be arrrsed in going back to Ford to complain, so ripped out the wet through material.

common issue with Fiesta mk7 and mk7.5; the bonnet pushes down into the plastic to make a seal, which stresses the plastic until it fails and lets water through. I have done the gutter sealant repair on 2 fiestas now. in both cases, reducing both the frequency and severity of windscreen condensation

I've had this on one half of the windscreen on both my Mk 8 Fiestas, plus my wife's Mk 1 Ka, Mk 7 Fiesta and SEAT Mii, but only when parked at home!

I've put it down to the parking place, which stays in shade for a long time on winter mornings, except for a shaft of sunlight (if there is any!).

This is a common issue in all cars, that are left outside in all weather conditions.

Years ago we bought a dehumidifier to get rid af dew and wet carpets. Leave it in the car the night over, and you will be surprised to see how much water it has extracted.

I do this 2 - 3 times during wintertime, and it's easy to see the difference.

BESIDES - your dehumidifier is useful in the house as well. How does your windows in the bedroom look like when you wake up, especially when it is cold? I know the answer. Most dehumidifiers have setting times like two hours. Press start and 2H and leave the room. You will notise the difference when you go to sleep at night.

AND - you probably know the drying racks with newly washed clothes. Where do you think all this water ends? Right - so leave the rack and your new dehumidifier in a closed room.
