Water hoses.

Featured Replies

Found a couple of niggling water leaks recently, so have decided to change all the hoses on our MK6. My thinking being if one is gone and another going it might be worth doing the lot rather than in instalments.

I have flushed the radiator and all good there, no nasty deposit or anything.

Here come the qustions:

Is it worth flushing the engine and what is the best way to do that?

Do I just push the new hoses back onto where they go and use the clips to secure or is there any kind of paste/sealing compound required?

When all re connected and sealed, should I fill the complete system through the expansion tank or try to get as much as I can into the heater, engine and radiator?

lnterrogation over, thank you for looking,

Mike.

I wouldn't bother flushing the engine.... but if this is the first coolant change for many years, I would flush the whole system by filling with cheap coolant, running it for a few weeks, and then change it again....  but that's just me.

Yes you do just push hoses on and clamp, and don't overtighten, as that can stress the rubber at that point around the clip.

How to refill varies on every car, so I'd find specific answers for your exact car.

And the question you didn't ask - which coolant - use Prestone, as it is high quality, cheap (buy from Tescos when it's on offer) and mixes with everything/is suitable for every car.

If there where no deposits in the Radiator then I wouldn't be too worried about the rest of the system.

Nice one, thank you for coming back.

I wasn't sure with the hoses. I have bought genuine Ford coolant so will go with that. Great tip about changing the coolant running for a few weeks and changing again. I think I will do that.

Thanks again.
