Advice please

I've just spent a week in hospital with a serious bleed in my stomach. As a result I'm very weak and I can no longer drive.

I'm going to have to sell my car. It's a 2017 Fiesta Titanium X auto fitted with a Ghost II immobilser. It has recently had the wet belts replaced. It'sdone 37,342 miles.

I wonder if I could have some advice on what to ask for it.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear this, Bob.

As a rough estimate I'd be aiming for around £6000-£7000 for a private sale.

It's well worth getting a trade valuation from motorway.co.uk.  And I seem to remember you have a good relationship with the local Ford dealer, so it would be worth asking them for a valuation as well.

Very sorry to see that, Bob.

Had a quick look on a few sites and private sales seem to start around the £5,500-7,000 mark as Tom suggests. Autos seem to be pretty rare, and I'm sure yours will be a good 'un.

I usually start off with getting a price from WBAC just to establish a base before doing the rounds.

Thanks for the advice guys. It will be followed.Time I stopped driving anyway; I'll be 90 in August.

I know this is a life changing event but really glad you have done the sensible thing to protect yourself and other road users (my Dad did the same as he hadn't grown up with motorways and just didn't feel confident anymore)
We see too many drivers (not just older ones) that shouldn't be on our roads!
I'm sure you'll adapt, Thanks for letting us know.

Ah but a young spring chicken 😉

My neighbour, Reg, drives a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to the shops most days. He is 96 and his wife is 101, it's not just the car that must get plugged in each night.

Hope you soon make a good recovery.

Age has different effects on driving ability for everyone. My mother was 91 when she gave up driving, she should really have given up about 4 years earlier than that. I know someone who is 72 who, in my opinion, is no longer safe to be on the road due to their deteriorated mental capacity. A friend who was 96 was still driving motorway journeys until a few weeks before he died, I felt safe travelling with him.

So sorry to hear this. Recently I spent over 8 weeks in hospital in the critical care ward of the RVH, where next of kin where called, as at stages I wasn't expected to make it through the night. I confess I was very worried about the future potential validity of my driving license. Fortunately for me, I'm still recovering. It's something most youngsters on this forum haven't even contemplated. I wish you all the best, and hope you get a good price for your car...

Very sorry to hear of your change of life.  I can't help with valuing the car, but my strong advice for you for a strong recovery is to get moving/exercise as much as the professionals say you should, and maybe a little more.

Good luck.

Bob, very sorry to hear of your health problems, I hope you can recover to some xtent, and regain quality of life, All the best, Paul K

Sorry I've not been around for some time. I've been busy getting my latest book published.

The local Ford dealers have offered me £5,500 for the car. They know its history etc.

I'll probably accept that.
