Am I screwed?

Featured Replies

Hi, so on the way home from work I was accelerating and the van jolted about and got a SERVICE ENGINE NOW fault coming up. After the first outburst there wasn't any power behind it at all it was like a limp mode but engine management light not on. Any ideas or do I go set it on fire now? I checked with my reader but no codes showed up. Thanks

Forscan for Ford specific codes and when the fault is on?

Generic code readers will not show or read Ford specific DTC's

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

That still isn't Forscan.

Is this a 1.6 TDCI? If so, the injector faults are normal. Every 8v 1.6 TDCI I've scanned has those.

Low fuel pressure is likely to be the one that dropped it into limp mode. If you're lucky it just needs a new fuel filter.

Agree totally with above, whilst your post title is upsetting, I'd still say change fuel filter (as being the cheapest way to proceed)

When was the filter last changed (Ford say 3 years for ours but after a dodgy batch, I do 2) as this is always worth a laugh (😉)?
I have developed a habit of tearing filters apart, (like they do on aircraft engines when first run) to see if anything significant is trapped in it?
Also IMHO Forscan is the definitive scanner and codes are just the start (live data is next) not the end of the diagnosis?

Yes its the 1.6, I'll try replacing the filter first and hopefully that does the trick. Thanks

You haven't given me the laugh about when the fuel filter was last changed? 😉
