Advice needed please (ecoboost wet belt)

Featured Replies

Hi

Just need a bit of advice please from those that know. I have the option to buy a 2016 1.0 petrol ecoboost automatic Fiesta. The car has only covered 14,000 miles with nearly all the miles being about 6 miles to the shops and back.

It does have a full ford service  apart from the last year when very few miles were covered.

Now my question is that given the low mileage but the car is 9 years old should i be worried about the wetbelt and just drive the car or should i get the belt changed even given the very low mileage.

Also if i took a gamble and just drove the car does the oil pressure light always come on prior to any major damage being done.

Thanks for any advice you may be able to give.

Even if the oil light just flickers the damage is being done.

Change the belts as soon as possible.

Bear in mind that car will also have the appalling, dry clutch, DCT250 Powershi*t, one of the last ones, which will also cause you nothing but grief.

I'm not sure if powershi*t has a balancer shaft like the later ones

The Oil Light will only illuminate when the Pressure get down to around 4psi, the normal Pressure in a healthy Engine would be 30psi or more - enough said!

Should you be worried ?????

Quite honestly I don't know how you sleep at nights 🤣

I'd be amazed if the belt lasts another month, you need to get it changed now !!

Unless you're literally talking peanuts to buy the car, sensible advice would be don't. That sort of usage is usually fatal long before 9 years. Ford have an extended goodwill scheme for cars up to 10 years old (though we've yet to see anyone succeed in a claim) but there's zero chance anyway with a missed service.

You're facing  a £1000+ bill for the  belts, just for starters.

Thanks for all your advice. It's unusual for everyone to agree on forums but it has made my decision a lot easier. I will leave well alone.
