Spark plugs and grease.

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

I am changing the spark plugs and leads today. In my Haynes manual, please don't beat me up, it mentions putting some silicone grease in the HT leads.

Is it necessary or advisory as I have never come across this before?

Thanks a lot.

Mike.

If you look at the new leads, you'll probably find they come pre-greased with dielectric grease.

It is useful to keep moisture out of the connection and prevent arcing or corrosion.

Nice one, I cannot see any grease in the lead but then it could be a fine coating.

Might be obvious but on the lead itself it says silicone power. Could be the material of the lead or a clue that they are pre greased. Whoops 🤭

Thank you ever so much for coming.

No. That's what the insulation of the HT lead is made of.

You need this:

Do the concertina / bellows bit on the leads have to go flush into the hole the sparks plugs go into or will a click when putting the lead on be sufficient.

I can't get them to go flush.

If I was playing football with the Fiesta today I would have taken my ball home 🤬

Thank you for the heads up regarding the grease.

They are not intended to go flush. Just push them on firmly (first apply the dielectric grease.) the cap will 'click' when it has engaged with the spark plug.

OK, will do.

Thanks again for your help.

Appreciated. 👍
