Ford Transit Connect Limp Mode

Featured Replies

Hi All

New to forum and this may have been covered but thought it might help someone . I Bought a Ford Transit Connect 1.5Tdci 2017 Plate . I bought it with the fault I am about to go into as Im retired and needed a van and like to tinker with mechanics . I am not a mechanic so there will def be no technical info .

The van would run for a few minutes then service engine now light would come on and if that was ignored then an amber engine management light. And occasionally limp mode Of course I stopped driving it. Van drove fine with no loss of power except in limp mode

I do not have forscan but on the scanner I do have, it was showing two fault codes .P11002 :21 _A7 Mass air flow sensor in range but lower than expected and P2279;00-A7 intake air system leak bank1

I knew the air mass flow sensor had been changed by previous owner . And it was a genuine part so moved on . On live data it read that air intake was 5 times higher in engine than at MAF sensor .

I thought air leak so put smoke machine in fact two at the same time as my son has one, in every intake we could get to and nothing .So we checked the boost pipes .Nothing

Decided to check the timing . The belt was a little slack at top as that was the only access I had at that point . When I set timing for belt change I noticed it was slightly out on cam pulley when crankshaft was locked off . I had no history with van except very recent work on previous owner trying to fix this fault . 104 k on the clock ,so gave it a full service . Reset timing and done water pump while I was there.

On inspection I found that tensioner was weak and the belt had slipped a tooth . . Took van for test run and running like a dream . Fingers crossed it stays that way

This may have been covered in past but ,as I said but may help someone out there pulling their hair out as I was

Love reading the forum and invaluable to newbies like me

Thanks for reading
