2012 Zetec - Rusty Sills

Featured Replies

Hello!

Could someone please point me in a direction of a bodyshop in the West Midlands that could repair the sills on my 2012 Fiesta?

Both sides are rusty and need replacing, the car has lived most of it's life in Scotland so I don't think the salt on the roads has helped much.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks!

Can't help you here, but seeing loads of fiestas from 09 to 13 rotted through sills on the rear of the sills, literally can push a screwdriver through the sill, it's not life in Scotland pal, every old fiesta is suffering from rust on these areas, even our 10 with just 58,000 miles on is suffering, once a year I have to scrape back the paint and get rid of the rust, then respray.

Ah ok, mines got 104,000 on it now, I've tried doing that but after about a week it just comes straight back

We spotted rust developing along the edge of the lower sills when the car was about 6 years old, the lip the jack fixes to, rust spreading it's entire length, I used a steel wire brush head on my angle grinder, took off every bit of paint making the steel look like chrome, then applying 'rust killer' followed by thick primer filler, followed by several coats of grey primer, then the base coat & top lacquer coat, making it look brand new.......But the rust came back within 6 months, just a fighting battle, last attack I whipped off the rust and slapped on Hammerite.

Another shocker was revealed when I took the wheel arch liners out, both sides, there was even rust in there, even on every spot weld, I removed the rust but filled everything in grease/oil to stop the rust.

I should remove your wheel arch liners pal, see what it's like behind, not hard to do it.....Remove the wheel, pull off the push on steel clips, remove the liner.

every fiesta of this age group that comes through my doors has rusty if not rotten sills, especially at the back.

I inspect them all before accepting any timing belt or subframe jobs, because if they are knackered on the sills, its pointless doing the other work for the mot until they are repaired. most of them need the inner sills done aswell right up into the wheel well.

The ones with side skirts seem to suffer the most.

Coincidentally just walked past a parked 13 plate on my way back from the postbox, so had a glance. Rear of both sills holed.

I saw a maroon 12 plate in a local supermarket carpark last year, showed my missus the massive hole and could easily fit my hand in the hole, it was huge.

A bloke on Facebook had an 09 plate fiesta, the rear subframe had failed at the curve/spring mount, literally rotted that bad the frame had broke in two, spring getting flirted out, the images to see the rot and how it had all twisted was pretty well shocking.
