Galvanic Cocrrosion on spark plugs.

Featured Replies

Evening one and all.

I would like to replace the spark plugs on my Fiesta 1.25 ltr, as I get a intermittent misfire on number 2 cylinder, but the car has it original plugs as the car has 31000 miles on the clock. I have tried to undo number 1, but I am unable to get the plug to undo, but what I don't want to is to brake the plug off. I thought using a breaker bar but I don't have the confidence to do it. Step by step instructions would be a great help.

Any advice on how I to remove the plugs without shearing the plugs of at.

Thank You for any advise would be great.

Terry.

Do you not have any penetrating oil? Bung some WD-40 (cheapest) or say RP-90 around each plug and leave overnight. You might get lucky.

Not at the moment.

Terry.

I'd buy the RP-90 as it is thought of as being much better. I'd agree.

Plusgas is another decent release agent. I also found Halfords 'shock & unlock' to work better than WD40 for this type of job.

You can also use a little diesel or oil (either engine oil or 3 in 1 etc). The benefit of using an oil is that it seeps down slowly overnight instead of evaporating quickly like WD40 does.
