Ford Dash Cam

Featured Replies

I'm having problems with my Dash Cam. As far as I know it starts recording once I switch the engine on.

But once I go into the app and chose the folder with files in, it's empty.

I'm also having trouble connecting it to the wifi. It says I need permission, but my location is enabled in my mobile phone settings.

Am I missing something basic?

The model is 2730087.

@Lumberjack Can you help me please?

Hei, Phil!

Please try the following steps in the exact order below, as there is a new update available on Google Play and let me know afterwards.

Cheers!

  1. Delete the dashcam pairing from the application

  2. Clear Cache

  3. Clear Data

  4. Uninstall the application

  5. Reinstall the application from Google Play

  6. Pair the dashcam again

You can see these steps demonstrated in the video here:

Many thanks for your detailed reply.

Everything went fine, but once I re-installed it, the location access never popped up.

Also, in my Bluetooth listing, when I press on Ford Dash Cam, it says "An app is needed to use this device", but the app is installed.

It's got something to do with my location settings in my Android phone. I've just gone Settings, Location, App Location Permissions, and my Dash Cam isn't in the list of Apps! 🤔

It should be.. What kind of phone do you have?

A Samsung Galaxy A41.

Hi Phil,

We’ve tested the app in-house on several Samsung phones running Android 11 through 16, and on all of them the app asks for the right permissions (including location) and the live stream works normally.

Because of that, it doesn’t look like a widespread app issue - it seems more likely something specific to your phone model or the way it’s currently set up. Since it’s an older device, we don’t have that exact model available to test right now, but we’ll try to get one and check it on our side.

We’ve run into a somewhat similar case before with another app on a different phone, and the only thing that fixed it then was a full factory reset. That said, we’re not suggesting you do that right now - it’s a big step and comes with obvious downsides (data loss, reinstalling everything, etc.). And to be transparent, even a factory reset wouldn’t be a guaranteed fix in this situation.

For the moment, we think this is limited to your specific device configuration. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we can test the same phone model or find a safer workaround.

Thank you for your reply Lumberjack.

I'll see if I can Live Chat with Samsung this week. 😎

  • Author

So I live chatted with them this morning. Samsung sent me an email with a few things to try, as I was in work, and not able to sit in my car.

None of them worked. I vaguely remember when first trying to view the recorded files I may have accidentaly refused the permission.

It's frustrating now though, as it won't reset and ask the question again. Like I said above, how can it be installed, but when I click on Forddashcam in my bluetooth list, it says I need to have the App installed?

I had a chat on the phone with Samsung Technical at lunch-time, and they also did a remote session with me.

It seems the App doesn’t show location in its settings, so I can't give it permission. She went into another App, and it indeed had location in the list of permissions.

So the App doesn’t work properly on my phone, meaning either an update in the App for my model of phone, or I’d need to get a new one.

This is a test that I'll do next week on a number of Samsung phones as soon as I get at the office.

I'll just let you know.

Hello,

I have just tested a number of devices, including Samsung and other models. The ones running newer operating systems (Android 13 and above) no longer request location permission, but older phones still do.

However, on Android 11–12, if location access is not granted, the phone will not connect via Bluetooth to the dashcam. At the next app launch, the application will request location access again.

The same devices will also not display the recorded files if storage access is not granted, but that permission will likewise be requested again the next time the application is opened.

I believe there may still be something specific to your device. If you haven’t already done so, please update your phone to the latest available operating system version.

Unfortunately my phone is on Android 12, and I can't get any more updates on it.

Does this mean a new phone if I want it to work on my phone LJ?

I know I can always just take the memory card out and watch on my PC if needs be....

The application also works on older Android versions, but it seems that something specific to your phone is preventing it from functioning properly.

Personally, before purchasing a new phone, I would back up all the content on the device and try performing a factory reset. However, this does involve the risks I previously mentioned.

Ultimately, the decision is yours.

Anyways, could you please clarify what you mean by LJ?

Sorry, it was me shortening LumberJack. 😀

I've decided to buy a new phone. It annoys me though, as this one works perfectly well, and is in great condition.

But as they're now on Android 16, and mine will no longer accept updates, I'll need to buy a new one eventually. I did 5 years ago when I bought this one. My Halifax Banking app stopped working, so got a new one.

That's progress I guess.

I’m sorry and happy at the same time. What can I say?

We’ve got a saying here: every kick in the butt is a step forward. Exactly like you said - progress I guess😆.

Good luck and all the best!

Are you using a microSD card? Could be a wifi issue?

Don't say that now I've just pre-ordered a Samsung Galaxy S26 for just over £900! 🙄 😂

Do you mean a micro SD card in the Dash Cam or my phone?

Nice! in the dash cam mate.
